The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Hockey Club jacket worn by student Doug Michalske, Class of 1966. The RIT Hockey Club existed from the late 1950s to the early 1960s before hockey became a varsity sport. The jacket is navy blue, red and gray. The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Hockey Club jacket is made of wool with pleather sleeves. There is a number 3 on the left sleeve. The jacket is navy blue, red, and gray with snap buttons down the front. Also on the front are two patches, two flags crossed, the U.S. flag and Canada's old flag, the red ensign with the British Union Jack. The second patch is a gray pennant shape with R. I. T. Hockey Club on it.

It is unclear when the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) first admitted minority students. However, it appears as though the first African American students entered the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed RIT in 1944) during the early 1900s. For instance, in 1906 Fredericka Sprague, the granddaughter of Frederick Douglass, took classes at the Institute. There are several other instances of African American students attending the school during the early 20th century as well...
